Where the good things grow<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On September 14, 1973, Gauja National Park (Gaujas Nacion\u0101lais parks) was established \u2013 a protected nature territory spanning over 91 thousand hectares, safeguarding countless natural treasures. The central artery of the park is the Gauja River with its impressive ancient valley and sandstone outcrops. The territory also encompasses ravines and swamps, lakes and forests making home for more than 800 plant species, 149 bird species, and nearly 50 mammal species.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among them, the human. Immensely proud to wind up just here \u2013 in an environment that inspires to create. Consciously, harmonically and paying respect to the surroundings. It is no coincidence that within the Gauja National Park area, more farms than average in Latvia chose to operate by organic principles. In 2023, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Gauja National Park, the residents, entrepreneurs, local municipalities, and representatives of non-governmental organizations of the municipalities within the park decided \u2013 \u201cA Bioregion shall be formed!\u201d \u2013 and, by signing a Memorandum of Good Will, agreed on 6 principles of cooperation and 8 directions of action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aim of the Bioregion is smart growth in harmony with natural and cultural-historical values. Firstly, at the core of the bioregion lies sustainable use of natural resources: organic farming, sustainable forestry. The \"fruits\" of the bioregion are reaped by its people. The organic goods produced on local farms are enjoyed by kindergarteners, schoolchildren, and residents of social care institutions. The taste of the bioregion is cherished by locals and visitors alike. Secondly, the bioregion thinks about tomorrow, managing resources farsightedly and circularly. Decision-making is empowered through data and insights gathered in the bioregion's research centers. And lastly, the fabric of the bioregion is woven by people. Enthusiastic communities that improve the environment around them and develop themselves by doing so. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea of the Bioregion is most clearly expressed in our Memorandum of Good Will. It is open to everyone! Read it, experience it and join us, too!<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
